On the 2009-2016 Hyundai Genesis, the Genesis sedan RWD rear differential develops a whining noise from ring and pinion gear wear, and the pinion seal leaks gear oil. The whine is most noticeable at 40-60 mph during steady-state cruising and changes pitch slightly during acceleration and deceleration. The pinion seal leak can be gradual enough that gear oil level drops slowly, accelerating gear wear. The limited-slip differential (when equipped) also develops chatter from worn clutch packs.
