On the 2001-2003 Toyota RAV4 2.0L 1AZ-FE, toyota T-SB-0156-10 Rev2 applies to some 2001-2003 RAV4 vehicles with the U241E 2WD or U140F 4WD four-speed automatic transaxle that exhibit harsh shifting and/or an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp with DTC P0750, P0753, P0755, P0758 and/or P1760. Toyota states that ECM manufacturing was improved to reduce this condition. The bulletin does not describe intermittent no-start, engine stalling, poor throttle response or a general starting-system failure.

If harsh shifting and/or the specified P0750, P0755 or P1760 condition remains after the ECM procedure, the bulletin then permits transaxle replacement and memory reset. Do not condemn the transmission before completing the ECM-first procedure. The original 96-month/80,000-mile emissions coverage and the later 10-year/150,000-mile support program are expired; obtain a diagnosis and written estimate before repair.
